Princeton resident Yvonne Bleiman died yesterday from injuries sustained when she and another pedestrian were struck by a truck last Friday in Hopewell Borough.

Bleiman, 76, was the widow of former Princeton Township mayor Jay Bleiman.

She and fellow Princeton resident Laura Hawkins, 66, were crossing East Broad Street last Friday afternoon when the driver of a Toyota Tundra pick-up truck struck both of them as he was turning on to East Broad Street from Maple Avenue. Both women were taken to Capital Health, and Hawkins was released with minor injuries.

The driver of the truck, Richard Karkalits of Hightstown, was charged with failing to yield the right of way and failure to stop for pedestrians. The case is being forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s office.

A memorial service for Bleiman will be scheduled soon, friends said.
