Friday, September 27

Friends of the Princeton Public Library Book Sale – Annual book sale in the library community room and Hinds Plaza tent runs until 8:30 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, and 1-5:30 p.m. Sunday. On Sunday, books will be sold at half price in the community room and in the tent on Hinds Plaza. From 3-5:30 p.m. on Sunday, a bag sale will be held in the tent where a standard grocery bag can be filled with books for $5. Bags will be supplied at the sale.

Proof, McCarter Theatre –  Drama by David Auburn. Tickets $20 and up. Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3 and 8 p.m., Sunday at 2 7:30 p.m.

Carnegie Center Parkinson Alliance 5K and Fun Run – JUSATF certified 5K, 1-mile fun run. Refreshments, door prizes, dj, awards, and a kids’ zone with moon bounces and clown/face painting. Proceeds benefit Parkinson’s research.  Walkers, families, and teams are welcome. 101 Carnegie Center Parking Lot, Registration on site opens at 7:30 a.m. 5K at 9:30 a.m. fun run at 9 a.m. 5K $30; USATF $27; Fun Run $17.

Super Saturday Carnival at John Witherspoon Middle School – Rides, games, music and food. Fundraiser to send 6th graders on an overnight environmental science trip. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. John Witherspoon Middle School, 217 Walnut Lane, Princeton.

Revolution at the Princeton Battlefield– Artillery demonstrations, Shakespeare’s “As you Like It” by the Princeton Shakespeare Co., music, battlefield life, food, and lots more at the Princeton Battlefield State Park, 500 Mercer Street, Princeton, NJ 08540. Learn about General Washington’s strategy to win the Battle of Princeton and find out why the battle was such a critical turning point of the American Revolution.  See artillery demonstrations and learn more about the important role of artillery at the Battle of Princeton (1-4:30pm). Play will be preceded by music by John Burkhalter, 4:30 p.m., play begins at 6 p.m. Visit the Thomas Clarke House where General Mercer died. Learn about plans for its further restoration.

St. Michaels Barn Dedication and Barn Dance Celebration – St. Michaels Farm Preserve, Hopewell, off Princeton Ave., near Saum’s Interiors. The D and R Greenway Land Trust invites the public to celebrate their dedication of the rescued historic timberframe barn on Hopewell’s St. Michaels Farm Preserve.  Festivities take place from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. following the Hopewell Harvest Fair.  Barn dancing will start at 7, to the music of Bill Flemer’s Riverside Bluegrass Band.  Guests are invited to bring picnic suppers, blankets, flashlights and folding chairs. Ian Macdonald Catering of Hopewell will offer beverages and foods for purchase. A $5 donation is suggested.

Cafe Improv – Music, poetry, comedy and more at the Arts council of Princeton, 7 to 10 p.m. Admission $2, $1 for Arts Council members.

Matt Wong Performs at Small World Coffee – Fingerstyle guitar virtuoso Matt Wong of West Windsor, age 15, will return to Small World Coffee to present an evening of guitar music with originals off his debut album Fly me to the Moon (Released in 2011) and covers of music of The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Chet Atkins, and much more. Matt will be joined by local singer/songwriter Anker. 8: 30 p.m., Witherspoon Street shop.

Princeton Adult School 75th Anniversary Celebration – Conversation titled  “Higher Education: Past, Present, Future.” Charles Gibson leads the discussion with former Princeton University Presidents Harold Shapiro and Shirley Tilghman, President of Cedar Crest College Carmen Twillie Ambar and Swarthmore College President Rebecca Chopp.  4 p.m., Friend Center, corner of Olden Ave. and William St., Princeton University. Tickets $25.
