Princeton Hospital Site Developer AvalonBay to Give Report to Council Tonight

avalonbayprincetonRepresentatives from AvalonBay are slated to give a report to the Princeton Council tonight regarding the prep work and demolition of the former hospital site in downtown Princeton.

The public meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the main meeting room at the municipal complex at 400 Witherspoon Street. The discussion of the AvalonBay project is slated to begin near the beginning of the meeting, just after public comment, according to the agenda.

The council is expected to discuss a developer’s agreement for the AvalonBay project at a work session on Jan. 27. The agreement will be voted on at a later meeting.

AvalonBay submitted a demolition plan for the hospital site last month. The developer is expected to begin demolition this spring.

A lawsuit is still pending regarding the approval of the AvalonBay project. The suit was filed by a group called Association for Planning at Hospital Site LLC, which is comprised of 10 residents who live in neighborhoods near the hospital site. The case is scheduled for another court hearing on Feb. 13.

A judge dismissed one count in the five-count suit last month. Mercer County Superior Court Judge Mary Jacobson ruled that the group was too late to challenge the legality of the zoning ordinances for the site, which were approved in 2006.
