The Love Show – From 7 to 9 p.m. Friday night, Small World Coffee will celebrate the fifth annual Love Show with an opening party at the Witherspoon Street coffee house. The party kicks off the annual community art show fundraiser that lasts all month. Each year, Small World Coffee holds an open call for artwork and select more than 40 artists from the community to participate. Artists are asked to create a piece that reflects on their relationship with the word love.

Small World uses The Love Show as an opportunity to spotlight a local non-profit organization and spread some love within the community. This year at the art opening, donations will be accepted for the Arts Council of Princeton’s art exchange program, which offers after-school art classes to children of families served by HomeFront. The first 50 people to make the suggested $20 donation will receive a Love Show 2014 tote bag.

The opening party will feature music by DJ AGGReschen, and  a Love Cake made by the Small World kitchen. Each year a local musician leads a sing-a-long to “All You Need Is Love”. This year local indie artist, Sarah Donner will be taking the stage.

Princeton Environmental Film Festival Screening of “The Crash Reel” –  The film combines 20 years of stunning action footage with new specially-shot verité footage and interviews as it follows U.S. champion snowboarder Kevin Pearce and exposes the irresistible but potentially fatal appeal of extreme sports. Screening in the community room at the Princeton Public Library, 7 p.m., free.

Volanti Flute Quartet at Princeton Theological Seminary – “A Musical Odyssey: Music for Flutes from Around the World”, presented by Jill Crawford, Ellen Fisher Deerberg, Katherine McClure, and Highton Williams. Works by composers from Belgium, France, Norway, Slovenia, Brazil, and more.  7 p.m. in Miller Chapel, free.

Sleeping Beauty – The timeless tale of Aurora and the prince who awakens her with a kiss, presented by the State Ballet Theater of Russia with choreography by Yury Grigorovich.  McCarter Theatre, 7:30 p.m. Tickets $20 and up.

An Evening of Gospel Music and Dance – Celebrate Black History Month at Princeton High. Performances by the Princeton High School choirs, the Trenton Children’s Chorus, and the Revelation Praise Dance Ministry of First Baptist Church. Choir members from Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church and First Baptist Church of Princeton will also join the students. At the Princeton High School Performing Arts Center, corner of Walnut Lane and Franklin Avenue, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

Dance Jam, Dance Improv Live – Dance Jam, Dance Improv Live at the Princeton Center for Yoga Health, 88 Orchard Road, Skillman,  Lightly guided dance improvisation with live music and refreshments, 8 p.m.. Admission $18.

Saturday, February 8

Cupid’s Chase 5K – Community Options, Inc. will hold its Annual Cupid’s Chase 5K at the Princeton Shopping Center. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the race starts at 10 a.m. Community Options, Inc. is a national non-profit organization incorporated in 1989 and headquartered in Princeton, NJ. The organization’s mission is to provide residential and employment services for people with disabilities. Registration the day of the race is $50.

Princeton Environmental Film Festival Screenings – The Princeton Public Library will screen “‘Marine Mammals and Sea Turtles of New Jersey” at 10 a.m.; “Saving Otter 501” at 11:30 a.m.; “Invisible Ocean: Plankton and Plastic” at 1 p.m.; “Running Wild: The Life of Dayton O. Hyde’ at 4 p.m.;  and “Blackfish” at 7 p.m. All screenings take place int he community room and are free.

Winter Farmers Market with Slow Food Central New Jersey – Winter Farmers Market hosted by Slow Food Central New Jersey at the D&R Greenway, One Preservation Place, Princeton, from  10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Locally grown cheeses, breads, baked goods, produce, jams, wine, mushrooms, and more. Live music by A Little Bit Off. Admission $2.

Valentine Workshop at the Arts Council of Princeton – Valentine workshop for children and adults. Construction paper, candy hearts, stickers, ribbons, stamps and more. Register in advance, and make something special for the ones you love! Two sessions: 10am and 12:30pm. $10. www.artscouncilofprinceton.org.

Princeton Black Arts Company’s  production of  “Children of Eden” – A two-act full-length musical by Stephen Schwartz (who also wrote the hit Broadway shows “Wicked” and “Pippin”), “Children of Eden” is a show that explores themes such as personal freedom versus authority, the quest for self-definition and relationships between the generations. The show is supported by a cast, orchestra and production team of more than 50 undergraduates. Frist Campus Center performance theater, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. (also Friday at 8 p.m.).

Princeton Symphony Orchestra Broadway Pops 10th Anniversary Concert – Show tunes, ballads, 20th century American music standards, works by George and Ira Gershwin. Richardson Auditorium, Princeton University, 8 p.m., tickets $35 and up.
