A winter storm warning is in effect for Mercer County  until 6 a.m. Friday. Up to 10 inches of snow is expected. A small amount of ice is also expected. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has declared a state of emergency and all state offices are closed Thursday.

The snow began just after  midnight. The snow may briefly mix with sleet during the day Thursday. The snow is expected to taper off early Friday morning. Winds of 10 to 20 miles per hour with gusts up to 30 miles per hour are possible and could lead to power outages if heavy snow accumulates on power lines and tree limbs by the time the winds increase.

Travel will be hazardous across the region on Thursday and possibly Friday morning. NJ Transit has announced it will offer systemwide cross-honoring on Thursday, Feb. 13 and Friday, Feb. 14 due to the storm. Trains and buses will run on a regular weekday schedule.

Municipal officials are asking residents not to park their cars on streets overnight or during the storm so that plows can plow streets. If there is a fire hydrant near your home officials have asked that a three-foot area around the hydrant be cleared. Princeton has declared a state of emergency beginning at midnight. Cars are supposed to be removed from streets and travel should be restricted. Town officials in Princeton are instructing residents to call PSE&G at 1-800-436-PSEG if they lose power. If residents see wires down, town officials are advising them to call the police department at 609-921-2100, ext. 0 and to provide the nearest cross street. Planet Princeton recommends that residents call PSE&G as well if wires are down, after calling the police department.
