A winter storm warning is in effect for Central New Jersey until 6 a.m. Friday. A strong winter storm will continue to affect our region, possibly bringing an additional three to six inches of snow to the Princeton area. The snow is expected to taper off after midnight.

On Thursday night, flooding had also become a major problem, with police in West Windsor reporting that streets throughout the town are flooded. Alexander Road was closed just after 9 p.m. between Faculty Road in Princeton and Canal Pointe Boulevard in West Windsor. It was reopened at 10 p.m. River Road was closed between Herrontown Road in Princeton and Blue Spring Road in Montgomery and reopened at 10:30 p.m..

Travel will remain hazardous Friday due to snow and ice on the roads. Princeton and some other surrounding communities ran out of salt for the roads or are low on salt, so travel may be even worse than expected.

Gov. Chris Christie announced that all state offices will have a delayed opening Friday at 10:30 a.m.

Most schools in the area announced that at a minimum, they will have delayed openings Friday. But school officials said final decisions will be made in the morning about whether schools will be open.

“The administration is asking families and staff to prepare for a 90-minute delayed opening for tomorrow, Friday, February 14,” wrote Princeton Public Schools officials. “District personnel will carefully monitor road and weather conditions throughout the night and send notification early tomorrow morning either confirming the delayed opening or, if necessary, canceling school. Notification will be sent by 5:30 a.m. through School Messenger, the district website, and our usual media channels. Thank you for your patience and continued support.”
