Princeton Police Warn Residents About Battlefield District Burglaries

Princeton Police are cautioning residents to follow safety tips to secure their homes in the wake of several homes in the Princeton Battlefield area being burglarized area over the past month.

Police said there have been “numerous” residential burglaries in the Battledield District since Feb. 11.

“Entry to these homes has been gained both by forced entry and by entering though unlocked doors and windows, with the proceeds from the crimes consisting mostly of jewelry,” a police statement said. “The homes were all vacant at the time of the burglaries.”

Police issued the following safety tips:

– Lock all doors and windows to your home, and lock your car at night – even if it is parked in the garage.

–  Exercise the “Good Neighbor Policy” and look after neighbors’ homes, especially when one of you is away.

-If you have an alarm, have it serviced regularly to make sure it is working properly and also set the alarm when you leave the house.

– Make sure outside nighttime lighting is adequate and working.

– In the event of an emergency, call 9-1-1.
