West Windsor Police Catch Men Connected With Several Home Burglaries

westwindsorpoliceTwo Ewing men who allegedly robbed homes in the Mercer County and Somerset County area were caught this week after a resident in West Windsor observed a robbery in progress and contacted the police.

On Tuesday March 25th, two men were taken into custody by West Windsor patrol officers after a brief vehicle and foot pursuit. The suspects, two white males, were observed by the homeowner and neighbors running from a West Windsor home with their arms loaded with stolen property. They watched the two suspects got into an older two door red Honda with Pennsylvania license plates and flee the area. A quick phone call to police alerted nearby officers.

West Windsor Police Sgt. Lee Evans observed the red Honda on Washington Road and signaled the driver to stop. The driver attempted to elude Evans, but stopped shortly thereafter. Both suspects then began to run from the Honda. Evans captured the passenger and then directed other responding officers and a police dog to search for the driver. The driver was apprehended in a nearby neighborhood without incident after a foot pursuit.

The driver of the Honda, Colin Mchugh, 28, and the passenger, Michael Kopyscianski, 29, were taken to police headquarters, processed, charged, and transported to the Mercer County Correctional Center in Hopewell. The Honda was impounded for a follow-up investigation conducted by the West Windsor detective bureau.

All of the stolen property from the victim’s residence and another home in West Windsor were recovered from the Honda. Evidence recovered from the Honda also suggested that the pair had conducted multiple burglaries throughout the Mercer and Somerset County area. A search of the suspects’ residence in Ewing on Thursday, March 27th, was then conducted. The search recovered even more suspected stolen property, some of which has since been identified by detectives from as far away as Branchburg.

The investigation is ongoing.

McHugh is being held in lieu of $103,250 bail. More charges are pending including possession of heroin, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
