Princeton HealthCare Employee Being Treated at Burn Center, Injured Visitor Released

The explosion at the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro last night is still under investigation, officials said this afternoon. A hospital employee who was critically injured in the blast is being treated at a burn center, and a hospital visitor with minor injuries has been released, according to a statement issued by hospital officials.

“The University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro is continuing to cooperate with the ongoing investigation into the explosion that occurred last night, which is believed to be accidental in nature,” the statement reads. “The employee who was seriously injured has been transferred to a burn center in the region. The visitor who sustained minor injuries has been treated and released. Counselors and chaplains are providing emotional support to patients, family members and employees. The hospital is continuing with normal operations for inpatients and outpatients today, including surgeries and outpatient services such as lab and radiology.”

The explosion happened in a patient room on the third floor just before 9 p.m. Thursday night. Employees and patients were startled by the blast and some felt a shaking movement.
