Friday, May 2

Come What May Family Concert: Presley and Melody – Princeton Public Library favorites Presley and Melody present a fun-filled interactive family concert featuring upbeat, springtime music. Community Room. Free.

Opening Reception for Art Exhibit “Politically Incorrect” at Trenton Social Bar and Restaurant – Exhibit of new works by Leon Rainbow. On view until May 30. Reception 6 to 10 p.m., Trenton Social (a Planet favorite destination!), 449 South Broad Street, Trenton. Free.

Teen Open Mic Night at the Arts Council of Princeton – Exclusively for high school students! No parents/adults other than staff will be admitted, and the event is free. 7 to 10 p.m.

South Brunswick Jazz Cafe with Wendy Zoffer -Wendy Zoffer presents jazz standards, pop, blues, and sambas. She performs with the Wendy Zoffer Jazz Group at events and venues including The National Constitution Center, Princeton Hyatt, Grounds for Sculpture, Princeton University, ETS, and The Governor’s Mansion. 8 to 10 p.m., doors open at 7:30 p.m. South Brunswick Municipal Complex, Herb Eckert Auditorium in the Senior Center, 540 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction. Saturday, May 3

West Windsor Community Farmers’ Market – First farmers’ market of the season at the Vaughn Drive Parking Lot, Princeton Junction Train Station. Produce, flowers, baked goods, and music by Ed Goldberg and the Odessa Klezmer Band. Walk from Maurice Hawk School at 8:30 a.m. for a walk with the West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance.9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Bike for The Bridge – Charity ride to benefit The Bridge Academy, a school for students with language-based learning disabilities like dyslexia, auditory processing, ADHD.
Routes:25, 50 and 75 miles, family fun ride. All routes will begin and end at Conant Hall at ETS. Day of event registration opens at 6:30 a.m., open until 10 a.m. Depart by 7 a.m. for 75 miles, 9 a.m. for 50 miles, 10 a.m. for 25 miles and family fun ride. On-site registration is $60, $25 for family fun ride. SAG stop on loops. Rovers will be on routes with cell phones.

Poetry in Motion 5K at Stuart Country Day School – Run, walk, or just drink coffee and eat doughnuts in the driveway. Stuart Road will close to all traffic at 7:30 a.m. Parking will be available at the Pitonyak Sports Center (tennis courts) for those arriving after 7:30 a.m.. The entrance to the Pitonyak Sports Center is located around the corner on The Great Road. All funds raised go to support Stuart’s Lies, Light, McCarthy Visiting Author Program that brings prominent writers like upcoming author Jane Hirshfield to spend the day on campus. Sports clinics and childcare will be available from 7:30 a.m. for all registered children ages 2+. Registration $35 adults, $15 students.

Morven in May – Professional artists and artisans from around the country will have their work on display, along with an array of beautifully crafted art objects displayed in gallery-style booths under a grand tent on the museum’s Great Lawn. Morven will also offer for sale a distinct collection of heirloom prennials and unique annuals for the garden. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, 55 Stockton Street in downtown Princeton. Admission to art tent is $10.

Kite Day Weekend at Terhune Orchards – Bring your own kite or choose a ready-made kite from the wide selection in the Terhune Orchards Farm Store. Or better yet, make a “guaranteed to fly” kite. Whichever you choose, test fly your kite in the farm’s 10-acre pasture with all the farm ainmals looking on. Country music and entertainment all weekend. The whole family can tour the orchards and fields while riding in a tractor-drawn farm wagon. The sheep will be shorn on Sunday and children can take home a piece of real fleece. There will be special activities and games for children in the barnyard. Food tent will include Terhune’s famous apples, cider, donuts, pies, country chili, hot dogs, our own fresh-grilled asparagus, salads, soups and all kinds of cookies and goodies. Parking at the farm. Admission to the festival area is $5, age 3 and up. No admission fee to farm store or winery.

6th Annual Family Fun day at the Quaker Bridge Mall – PrincetonKIDS and Gymland School of Gymnastics invite the public to attend the 6th Annual Family Fund Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Quaker Bridge Mall. This free community event will feature live entertainment, including an interactive circus with Circus Place and Stone Soup Circus; a live music performance by Yosi; an exciting magic show with Dennis James; and a science show with Mad Science of NJ.  Additional event activities will include face painting, glitter tattoos, giveaways and arts and crafts for kids.

Sixth Annual Small Business Fair – Annual event connecting local small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs with organizations and resources to help them succeed in business. Representatives from the Small Business Administration, SCORE of Princeton, banking, marketing, insurance and other industries will participate. Workshops include: “Starting a Home-Based Business,” “Secrets to Funding Your Business” and “Introduction to Digital Marketing.” Register for the workshops at the SCORE table in the exhibit area.Princeton Public Library, 11 a.m., free.

Princeton Fire Department Annual Inspection Parade – The parade for Princeton’s all volunteer fire department will begin at 7 p.m. at the corner of Chestnut Street and Nassau Street.  The parade will proceed down Nassau Street and conclude at the plaza in front of Monument Hall, where the department will issue its annual service awards. Area residents are invited to find their favorite spot along the route to enjoy the music, fire trucks and marchers that are in this year’s parade.

MASS assembly Opening Reception at the Arts Council of Princeton – Celebrate the newest exhibition in the Taplin Gallery, an exciting and eclectic compilation of works by the artists Willie Cole, Andy Epstein, Donna Payton, and Valerie Young. This event is free and open to the public. MASS assembly will be on display until June 7.

Second Annual Big To-Do  Back in the Saddle Derby Day Celebration – Live music, Derby screening, local food and vendors, family activities, Derby hat contest. Show off your favorite Kentucky Derby hat or make your own on site. John Hart Farms, 91 Titus Mill Road in Pennington. Parking $3.

Music of the Baroque on Period Instruments, Le Triomphe de l’Amour – “Back to Nature: French Baroque Music in Celebration of Spring,” a program of chamber music from 18th century France. Pre-concert talk about John Burkhalter about 18th century French views of the natural world. Laura Heimes, soprano; Daniela Pierson, baroque violin; John Burkhalter, recorders; Donna Fournier, viola da gamba; and Janet Palumbo, harpsichord. 7:30 p.m., Unitarian Church of Princeton, 50 Cherry Hill Road, Princeton. Tickets $20.

Drum and Dance Fire Circle at Princeton Center for Yoga & Health – Group drumming led by Mark Wood. No experience necessary. Drums provided or bring your own. 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Orchard Hill Center, 88 Orchard Road, Skillman, admission $15.

Sunday, May 4

Friendship Expo – Special needs resources fair and networking, activities for the whole family, presentations and demonstrations, art for sale by special needs students, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Princeton Day School  650 Great Road. Free admission.

Performance Workshop: “Who’s Afraid of New Music?” – Piano music written in the 21st century from all over the world is the focus of this workshop presented by Marvin Rosen, faculty member of the Westminster Conservatory of Music and host and producer of WPRB’s “Classical Discoveries” program. A number of short complete works will be performed during the program. 3 p.m., Princeton Public Library Community Room, free.

“The Road Home,” Hopewell Valley Chorus Spring Concert – The concert will feature a performance by Elisabeth Boyce-Jacino, the 2014 Hopewell Valley Chorus scholarship winner. 4 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Washington Crossing, 263 Washington Crossing-Pennington Road, Titusville, NJ. Tickets are $15.

Princeton Ciclovia -A stretch of Quaker Road will be transformed into an automobile-free space for cyclists and pedestrian from 1 to 4 p.m., rain or shine. Quaker Road will be open for walking, pushing strollers, skating, running, biking, wheelchairs and walkers, rollerblading, and dancing. Leashed dogs are also welcome to walk or run. Participants are encouraged to walk, run or bike to Quaker Road. A group bike ride will depart from the Princeton Shopping Center at 12:15 p.m. Cyclists can also park and ride along the tow path from any D&R Canal parking area. Parking will be available at the Friends School at the corner of Mercer Road and Quaker Road in Princeton, and in the ‘Babies ‘R Us’ parking lot at the Nassau Park Shopping Center in West Windsor. The Updike Farm will be open for tours throughout the afternoon. The D&R Canal Watch will offer two guided walks. Ted Chase will lead a bird walk at 1:30 p.m. Doug McCray will lead a history walk at 3 p.m. Both guided walks will begin at the D&R Canal parking lot near Port Mercer, and each will last about 30 minutes.
