The Lawrence Township board of Education released the following statement to Planet Princeton this morning regarding Kathryn Spiropoulos, the district  bus transportation supervisor who was caught at the Philadelphia International Airport yesterday morning carrying a Glock Model 30 .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun loaded with a magazine containing 10 live rounds and a credit card-shaped object that folded into a knife.

“The Lawrence Township Board of Education and its administration received information that one of its employees, Kathryn Spiropoulos, was arrested at Philadelphia International Airport, and may face criminal charges. Ms. Spiropoulos’ arrest did not occur on school grounds, and did not occur at a time when she was working within the scope of her employment.

The Board and its employees will fully cooperate with the law enforcement agencies that are investigating this incident.  Once the official investigation is complete, the Board intends to act appropriately, and as permitted by law.

As always, the Board’s primary focus is on its students; the health, safety and welfare of its students and staff; and, on the delivery of education to the students of the Lawrence Township School District.”
