Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton Appoints New CEO

Freeman

The board of directors of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton announced today that Richard Freeman has been named the new president and CEO of the hospital.

Freeman succeeds Anthony “Skip” Cimino,  who served five years as president and 26 years as a trustee and executive of the organization.

An experienced healthcare executive with more than 30 years of experience as a hospital leader, Freeman spent most of his career with National Medical Enterprises and Tenet Healthcare. He earned a master’s degree in business administration from Temple University.

Prior to accepting the post at RWJ Hamilton, Freeman integrated Mountainside and Pascack Valley hospitals into the Hackensack University Health Network, serving as president of both hospitals. Previously he was the chief operating officer of Beth Israel Medical Center and Continuum Health Partners in New York City. He also served as chief executive officer of the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital, where he successfully integrated the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

“Richard Freeman is the right leader at the right time for RWJ Hamilton,” says J. Lynne Cannon, chairman of the hospital’s board of directors. “His success in driving growth, quality, financial and service initiatives gives us confidence that he will shape the future for RWJ Hamilton and take us forward.”

“This is an exciting time for Robert Wood Johnson Health System as we build our network of hospitals and physicians, and strengthen our relationship with the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School,” says Stephen K. Jones, president and chief executive officer of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson Health System. “The healthcare landscape is changing dramatically and we believe that the RWJ Health System is uniquely positioned to lead this change and promote health and wellness for the benefit of our community. Richard is experienced in leading locally within a large healthcare enterprise and building partnerships with community and faculty physicians. He is an ideal fit for Hamilton.”
