Morning Crash on Princeton Kingston Road Sends Four to Area Hospitals

pfarsA 2011 Cadillac silver limousine collided with a black 2007 Acura MDX just before 7 a.m. this morning at the intersection of Poe Road and Princeton Kingston Road. The Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad had to use heavy equipment to open the right rear door of the limousine so that rescue works could get the back seat passengers out of the vehicle. Four people were injured in the crash and taken to area hospitals.

Mehtab Anwar, 40, of Iselin, was traveling south on Poe Road in the limousine when he turned left onto Princeton Kingston Road and was struck by the Acura, which was driven by Chia Chu, 53, of Hamilton. The Acura was traveling east on Princeton-Kingston Road and struck the limousine’s right rear door with its front end. The limousine’s airbags deployed, there was extensive damage to the right rear door and right rear panel, and the rear wheels came off of the rear axle. The limousine was towed from the scene. The Acura had extensive front end damage and also had to be towed from the scene. The limousine driver, Anwar, was issued a summons for failure to yield.

Anwar complained of pain in the ribs and abdominal area and was taken to the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. The passengers of the limousine, who were visiting from Berkley, California, were taken to Capital Health at Fuld. Sophie Volpp, 51, had neck abrasions caused by the car seat belt. Her 13-year-old son suffered heat trauma and upper back pain. Her 8-year-old daughter was not injured but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The Acura driver complained of chest pain but refused treatment. The front passenger, Lee Zhong, 48, of Princeton complained of right shoulder pain and was taken to the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro.
