School Board President Tim Quinn is not seeking another term.

Three newcomers and one incumbent are running for the three school board seats that will be up for grabs in the Princeton Public Schools election in November. Two incumbents have decided not to run again.

The deadline for filing candidate petitions was Monday afternoon.

School board incumbent Afsheen Shamsi is seeking her second term on the board. Challengers include residents Fern Spruill, Justin Doran and Connie Witter.

Tim Quinn, who has served as the president of the school board for the last year and a half and has been a member of the board since 2008, said he is not seeking re-election because it is time for some new faces on the board.

“I’ve enjoyed serving on the Princeton Board of Education and it was a great honor to have been selected twice as president by my colleagues, Quinn said in a written statement. “Ours is a board of leaders. Working with two exceptional superintendents, first Judy Wilson and now Steve Cochrane, and being part of a dynamic, student-centered district has been an enormously rewarding experience. I think it’s time for new voices to be heard on the board. I look forward to exploring other ways I can be of service to Princeton, a town that has given me, and my family, so much.”

Asked if he has ever considered running for the Princeton Council, Quinn said he is open to exploring all opportunities to be of service to Princeton. He has lived in town since 1989.

Board member Dan Haughton, who chairs the board’s finance committee, also has decided not to seek re-election.
