New Pedestrian Crossing on University Place in Princeton Will Be Removed and Redone

detourThe new pedestrian crossing on University Place near McCarter Theatre will be removed and rebuilt over the next month and University Place will be closed again between College Road and Alexander Street for about four weeks.

Town officials, Princeton University representatives and the construction company that is working on the school’s arts and transit neighborhood determined that the pedestrian crossing that was recently built needs to be removed and redone.

Construction will begin this Saturday, August 2. University Place will be closed to thru traffic.  The closure is expected to remain in place until the end of August. Drivers can access the Wawa customer parking lot via the roundabout on Alexander Street. The temporary traffic signal at the intersection of College Road and Alexander Street will operate while the detour is being used. This signal will begin operating in flash mode tomorrow, July 31.

Local access to and from the metered diagonal parking spaces along University Place south of College Road and adjacent to the McCarter Theatre will be maintained via the College Road-University Place intersection. Pedestrian and bike paths in the area will be shifted during this construction phase.

The TigerTransit and TigerPaWW bus stop will remain at College Road, across from the entrance to McCarter Theatre.
