Princeton Police Blotter: Resident Arrested Twice in Less Than Two Hours

A police officer arrested a Princeton resident Thursday at about 12:30 a.m. after observing him cause a disturbance at a downtown business. Ernst Delma, 31, entered Hoagie Haven on Nassau Street after the store’s owners advised him not to enter because he allegedly had been harassing customers. Delma was issued a summons for defiant trespassing. A little over an hour later, Delma was arrested behind Redding Plumbing after an eyewitness saw him attempt to pry open a rear door and smash a rear window. The witness called police. Delma was caught at the scene and charged with attempted burglary and criminal mischief. Bail was set at $10,000. Delma was transported to Mercer County Correctional Center in Hopewell when he was unable to post bail.

A man claiming to be a PSE&G debt collector called a Princeton resident and told him to pay his $800 debt within an hour or risk having his power shut off. The victim was instructed to place the $800 on a MoneyPak prepaid card, then forward the card’s account number to the caller. The victim complied, but later called police after realizing he was scammed.

A Monmouth Junction resident was pulled over for a motor vehicle stop on July 27 just after midnight on Riverside Drive near Nassau Street. Mary Derwin, 57, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. She was processed at police headquarters and later released.

Police pulled over a car on the afternoon of July 23 on South Harrison Street near Western Way and determined that the driver was wanted in Alabama for drug-related offenses. Joseph Green Evans was processed and transported to the Mercer County Correction Center in Hopewell to await extradition to Alabama.

The Princeton parking meter department reported that sometime between July 14 and July 18, someone stole a meter head and pole from the 200 block of Nassau Street. The cost of the meter and pole was more than $500.

Two men reported that three Hispanic males and one black male punched and kicked them as they were walking along the 200 block of Nassau Street at about 2:30 a.m. on July 19. Nothing was stolen from the victims, police said. The victims were transported to University Medical Center at Plainsboro and treated for minor injuries. Police checked the area but were unable to locate the suspects.

A Perrineville resident was charged with possession of controlled and dangerous substances and possession of drug paraphernalia after she was stopped on South Harrison Street near Western Way at about 12:15 a.m. on July 19. Ariel Silver, 23, allegedly was in possession of cocaine, marijuana, and a glass pipe.

A Cannondale mountain bike was stolen from the first block of Moore Street July 13th or July 14th. The bike, valued at $1,000, was stolen from a backyard patio.

About $1,500 worth of jewelry was reported stolen from a home on the 100 block of Leabrook Lane sometime between June 1 and July 9. The detective bureau is investigating the theft.

On July 14, a Princeton resident was arrested by police on a Mercer County Sheriff’s Office warrant totaling $13,354. Mark Jaffe was processed at police headquarters and turned over to Mercer County Sheriff officers after being unable to post bail.

A resident reported this that between April and July of this year, someone made multiple unauthorized charges on her Visa debit card totaling $836.
