Princeton Police Blotter: Gas Leak, Bike Thefts at Two Parks

princeton policeThe Princeton Police, Princeton Fire Department, and Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad responded to reports of a gas leak at a construction site off Russell Road on Aug. 25 . A Mayfield Site Contractors backhoe operator struck a gas line while digging off Russell Road near the Hun School of Princeton campus. The line was quickly shut down by PSE&G personnel, who were present when the line was struck. There were no injuries reported, nor were evacuations or traffic diversions needed. Princeton officials declared the scene safe and all emergency personnel cleared the area just after 10 a.m.

A Princeton resident was pulled over by police on Aug. 23 at 9:30 p.m. on South Harrison Street near Hartley Avenue. Luiz Gustavo Rossi, 34, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. He was processed at police headquarters and later released.

A resident reported that some time between noon and 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 22, his bike was stolen from Barbara Sigmund Park at Hamilton Avenue and Chestnut Street. His Giant mountain bike, helmet, and cable lock were all stolen. They are valued at $350 total. The bike was locked to a fence at the time of the theft.

During a pedestrian stop near Battlefield State Park just after noon on Aug. 22, Lanoka Harbor resident Gerard Newell was arrested on a Manalapan Municipal Court warrant for $1000. He was processed at police headquarters and turned over to Manalapan Police after being unable to post bail.

Just after midnight on Aug 21, a 2011 Toyota Sienna operated by Miguel Antonio, 51, of Manville swerved to avoid a deer and struck a guard rail at the intersection of Arreton Road while traveling south on State Road. The Toyota sustained extensive front-end damage. The guard rail was also dented. Antonio complained of lower back pain and was transported by the Montgomery Emergency Medical Squad to the Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. A front seat passenger complained of neck and chest pain, and was also transported by Montgomery EMS. Kwik Response towed Antonio’s vehicle from the scene.

Two bicycles were stolen from the Community Park South bike rack on Aug. 21. Two residents reported that some time between noon and 4:30 p.m., their men’s Diamondback mountain bicycle valued at $170 and men’s Nishiki Pueblo mountain bicycle valued at $170 were taken from the rack.

A resident reported that some time between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 20, someone stole her Thule travel bicycle rack valued at $250 from the back of her vehicle. The resident said she didn’t know the exact location of the theft, but said it occurred while making several stops in town.

    … what? Ignoring that hiccup at the beginning, what was the warrant *for*?

    1. Typo fixed. Thanks Stephen. Police did not list what the warrant was for. Will try to get more details.

  2. The two stolen bikes were stolen during the Princeton Tennis Program Davis Cup camp in the middle if the day with tons of people around, including myself. Those were some brazen thieves.
