The local performance group for young people formerly called DanceVision has a new name this fall, Princeton Youth Ballet.

“One of our missions at Princeton Youth Ballet is to give talented and well-trained young dancers the chance to perform principal roles in professional-quality performances,” says Risa Kaplowitz, the group’s artistic director. “Another is to encourage a love and appreciation for classical ballet through inspired storytelling, magical productions, and uncompromising artistry.”

To kick off the new season and the new name, Princeton Youth Ballet will be holding a fall fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 19th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  at  thePrinceton Dance and Theater Studio, which is located at 116 Rockinghan Row in Forrestal Village. The event will include a silent auction, basket raffle, face painting, food, crafts, and games. Proceeds will benefit Princeton Youth Ballet, which is registered non-profit.

This December, Princeton Youth Ballet will  bring the holiday ballet “The Snow Queen” to the Princeton High School stage. The ballet is based on the same Hans Christian Andersen tale that inspired the hit movie “Frozen.” Trained area dancers ages 6 to 21 can audition for a role in “The Snow Queen” on Saturday, Sept. 27th at the Princeton Dance and Theater Studio.

“There is nothing better than watching a child’s face fill with awe as they witness another child do something extraordinary,” said Kathy Azaro, president of the Princeton Youth Ballet board. “They develop an immediate appreciation for both the dancing and the music.”
