Fall Native Plant Sale at the D&R Greenway Land Trust – Visit the  Johnson Education Center, 1 Preservation Place, Princeton, (just off Rosedale Road across from the Johnson Park School) from 3 to 6 p.m., Plants are available in quart and gallon-sized pots from $5 to $12. Sale continues Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon.

Run with Senator Cory Booker – Fun one-mile run from Riverside Elementary to Thomas Sweets with U.S. Senator Cory Booker. Starts at 7 p.m.

Open House, String Of Pearls Congregation – String of Pearls, Princeton’s Reconstructionist Synagogue, will host an open house  followed by an Erev Shabbat service at 7:30 p.m. Meet Rabbi Ellie Knepler and Hebrew School Principal Abby Sorrell and learn about the congregation’s Monday Hebrew School and schedule for the high holidays. Refreshments will be served. 6:30 to 7:30pm., 50 Cherry Hill Road, Princeton.

Jazz and Beyond featuring The John Henry Goldman Trio – Trumpeter John Henry Goldman is joined by percussionist Sim Cain and bassist Wilbo Wrigh at the Arts Council of Princeton. 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., doors open at 7:30 p.m. $10, $8 for Princeton Arts Council members, students, and seniors.

Princeton Seminary Offers Community Hymn Sing – Princeton Theological Seminary presents “Teach Me Some Melodious Sonnet: An Evening of Psalms and Hymns with Isaac Wardell” at 8 p.m. in Miller Chapel.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature Isaac Wardell, director of Bifrost Arts, and director for worship at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, Virginia. The concert will also feature the Princeton Seminary Chapel Choir. Bifrost Arts is an ecumenical religious organization that produces written and recorded religious music and educational materials for worship.

Guided tour of D&R Canal between Princeton and Lawrence – The walk will be between Alexander Road in Princeton and Carnegie Road in Lawrence, with the option of a shorter walk. The 5.5-mile walk will include Turning Basin Park, Port Mercer and its historic bridge tender’s house, a convenient side trail to the historic Brearley House, a dramatic footbridge over Route 1, Bakers Basin and the bridge tender’s house at Carnegie Road.  The shorter walk will be 2.6 miles. Canal Watch board member Bob Barth will conduct the walk and provide commentary. Meet 10 a.m. at the canal parking lot on Carnegie Road in Lawrence.  Carnegie Road can be reached from northbound Brunswick Avenue (Business Route 1), north of Darrah Lane. Carpools will be arranged to allow a one-way walk. Free event! Donations to support the park are appreciated.

 

Apple Day Weekend at Terhune Orchards –  38th annual festival weekend. Pick you own  apples, tractor-drawn wagon rides, live music from the Daisy Jug Band, adventure barn “The Four Seasons at Terhune Orchards.”, face painting, pumpkin painting, pony rides, cornstalk maze, pumpkins, food tents, wine tasting, photo display. No admission to the farm store, winery tasting room, and Van Kirk pick your own. Admission to the festival area is $5. Children under three receive free admission. Fee includes music, pedal tractors, play tractors, the barnyard, the corn stalk maze, the adventure barn, and children’s games. Other activities are available for an additional cost. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 330 Cold Soil Road, Princeton, NJ 08540.

Thompson Classic Bicycle Race – If you go, get there early and find a good parking spot. The Thompson Classic Bicycle Race will finish in New Hope. North Main Street will be closed to traffic between East Randolph Street and West Randolph Street from 9 a.m. until about 5 p.m. West Randolph Street will also be closed. Traffic will be permitted on North Main Street between Bridge Street and East Randolph Street, and North Main between Route 202 and West Randolph, until about noon. No through traffic from noon until about 3 p.m.  All parking meters on North Main, East Randolph, West Randolph and West Parry will be bagged “no parking starting at 11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11. Any vehicle parked in a bagged space as of 8 a.m. Sept. 14 will be removed by police at the owner’s expense.

Amwell Valley Music Festival – Music and arts festival featuring seven acts from the Tri-State area. Art exhibits, art for sale, painting, jewelry and crafts. 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at the Hillsborough Golf and Country Club, 146 Wertsville Rd, Hillsborough. Tickets $25 at the door.

Annual Garden Party Gala at the D&R Greenway Land Trust – Garden party with wine, hors d’oeuvres, music, and celebration of 25 years. Conservation award to Richard S. Goldman, Esq. 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Johnson Education Center, 1 Preservation Place, Princeton.  Tickets $100.

23rd Annual  Palmer Square JazzFeast – Open-air jazz festival in downtown Princeton on the Palmer Square green featuring performances by some of the industry’s best jazz musicians. Food for sale from 16 area restaurants. Noon to 6 p.m., rain or shine. Free.

Arts Council of Princeton Fall Open House – Learn about upcoming programs, events, membership, volunteer opportunities, and meet instructors. Tour the ACP’s Paul Robeson Center for the Arts and enjoy ice cream and Bai Brands. Demonstrations for children and adults, a Flamenco Public Forum, and live mural painting by the S.A.G.E. Coalition. Will “Kasso” Condry and James “Luv 1” Kelewae will paint a mural spanning two small brick walls behind the ACP’s Paul Robeson Center. The mural will be inspired by the Underground Railroad, which had a “station” in the Witherspoon-Jackson neighborhood in Princeton.  Exhibitions include annual members’ show “Creature Comforts?”, faculty spotlight featuring the work of Kathleen Metaxas, Gillette Griffin: “The Eyes Have It,” and the Terrace Project: Sculpture by Jim Perry. The Open House will take place at the Paul Robeson Center for the Arts, 102 Witherspoon Street, Princeton. Noon to 3 p.m. Free.

Celebrity Cook Off for Send Hunger Packing Come to Community Park School to see Celebrity Chef Brian Duffy take the challenge and create a tasty dish, with healthy, affordable and available “secret” ingredients. 3 p.m. Free.

“Sagra Del Riso” Farm-to-Table Benefit Dinner – Blue Moon Acres Farm will host its second annual farm-to-table benefit dinner for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen. This years, “Sagra Del Riso,” or feast of rice, will feature a variety of dishes from Chef Max Hansen, of Bucks County, with a focus on the evening’s main ingredient, rice. 4 to 9 p.m., Blue Moon Acres Farm, 11 Willow Creek Drive, Pennington. Tickets are $125 per person and can be purchased online.
