Princeton Today: Poems and Percussions

Small World Coffee will host a fundraiser for Sustainable Princeton tonight called “Poems and Percussions for the Planet.” You can make a donation at the door or buy a ticket online via Eventbrite. Performances by Dan Johnson and Arul Karttikeya. 7 p.m., Small World Coffee, 14 Witherspoon Street. Suggested donation is $10.

Speaking of sustainability, people are gearing up for the Climate March Sunday in New York. More than 100,000 people are expected to fill the streets for the event and fill the air with bells, whistles and noisemakers at 1 p.m. to sound the alarm on climate change.  The march starts at 11:30 a.m. at Columbus Circle and ends at 11th Avenue and 34th Street, where participants can join a party until 5 p.m. Similar events will take place in more than 150 countries. The United Nations Climate Summit will take place in New York on Sept. 23.

The Princeton Planning Board will consider an ordinance banning fracking tonight (manufacturing and drilling are already banned in Princeton).  The board will also review a new proposal from the Institute for Advanced study to build housing on its campus near the Princeton Battlefield. Residents have challenged the proposal to build the housing on land they say was an important part of the Battle of Princeton during the Revolutionary War. The planning board will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the main meeting room at town hall, 400 Witherspoon St., Princeton, NJ.
