Princeton Today: Dalai Lama Tickets

dalai lama PrincetonMany Princeton area residents are hoping to score some tickets tonight to hear the Dalai Lama speak at Princeton on Oct. 28. Ticket distribution for the general public will begin at 6 p.m. tonight via an online registration system, first-come, first served. One ticket per person. Tickets will not be available at the Frist Ticket Office. For individuals who obtain tickets via the online system, they will need to be pick up their ticket in person from the Office of Community and Regional Affairs at 4 Mercer Street before Oct. 1.

The Dalai Lama will give the talk “Develop the Heart.” He will highlight the importance of developing compassion and kindness, alongside the intellect, in an academic environment. In the afternoon he will meet with a small group of students and faculty to discuss Princeton University’s informal motto, “In the Nation’s Service and in the Service of All Nations.” After the conversation, a blog with entries from community members will provide an opportunity for continued reflection.

The event begins at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 28 at Jadwin Gymnasium on the Princeton University campus. Tickets were distributed to students and faculty last week.

Princeton Cub Scout Pack 43 Roundup –  Annual Princeton Cub Scout open house  7 p.m. – 8 p. m. at the Littlebrook Elementary School gymnasium, 39 Magnolia Lane, Pinceton.  For boys in the first to fifth grades (ages 7-11). COMMUTE

PATH Service from Journal Square and Hoboken to Manhattan has been suspended this morning due to track issues. New Jersey Transit is cross honoring PATH tickets between Newark, Hoboken and New York.

Avoid the area of Route 27 and New Road until about 9 a.m. Traffic lights are not functioning and are currently being repaired.

The reconstruction and realignment of Route 518 between Canal Road and Route 27 began yesterday. The tentative schedule: Sept. 22 to Sept. 26th possible isolated utility work. Oct. 1 to Nov. 7th one lane closure with alternating traffic weekdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 10 to Nov. 21: 24/7 road closure with detour. Nov. 24 to Dec. 23rd road closure with detour weekdays 9a.m. to 4 p.m..  This will be a long term project with an expected completion at the end of 2015.

In South Brunswick, avoid Davidson Mill Road between Fresh Ponds Road and Rt 535 (Cranbury South River Rd.) due to paving until  4 p.m. One lane open. Expect delays.

In Lawrence, Bakers Basin Road is scheduled to be closed to through traffic September 22 to September 26 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Milling and resurfacing work will continue on Pennington- Lawrenceville Road (County Route 546) from Federal City Road to U.S. Route 206. Mercer County anticipates that this work will take approximately twenty working days, weather permitting. New Jersey American Water is reconstructing Route 206 between the Fackler Road Extension and Province Line Road as part of a water main project the company completed last year. The work is being done mostly from 9 .m. to 6 a.m. The work will take about 4 weeks to complete.
