United States Senator Cory Booker will visit Tigerlabs this afternoon to judge a startup pitch-off competition. This Booker’s second visit to Princeton in two weeks. The event today, which is co-sponsored by the New Jersey Tech Meetup and Techlaunch, will highlight top New Jersey startups and entrepreneurs, including several from the Tigerlabs coworking space. Booker will be one of four judges. The other three judges are:  Aaron Price, founder of  the New Jersey Tech Meetup and CEO of livecube; Mario Casabona, founder of TechLaunch; and Tara Dowdell of the Tara Dowdell Group.

The startups:

wattvision -An app that provides live feedback of energy use, tracks months of energy data, and allows users to explore energy solutions with other wattvision users. Designed for homes and businesses.

TapFactory – A boutique digital agency that creates apps like notefuly, a new app that manages notes and keeps information organized.

Gruberie – An app for exploring local cuisines. Based on your preferences, the app recommends specific dishes in your area. A proprietary food recommendation algorithms will pick the meal you will enjoy based on some simple parameters like the radius you would like to receive recommendations in, and your food preferences.

Hastke – The Princeton University research spin-off company has created technology that captures cellular events in live cells at an unprecedented level of detail in 3D.

Fusar – The company is creating a motorcycle helmet called Guardian. The company calls it the worlds smartest motorcycle helmet.

Olwen FouéréVisits Princeton University – Irish theater artist Olwen Fouéré will talk with chair of the Lewis Center for the Arts Michael Cadden and Irish theater critic Fintan O’Toole about “riverrun,” her one-woman show based on a part in James Joyce’s “Finnegans Wake”.  4:30 p.m., Stewart Theater of the Lewis Center for the Arts, 185 Nassau Street, Princeton.Free.

Readings by Roger Reeves and Hanna Pylväinen – Poet Roger Reeves and fiction writer and Arts Fellow Hanna Pylväinen will read from their work at 4:30 p.m. in the Berlind Theatre at McCarter Theatre. Free.

Free Rosh Hashanah Services – Rosh Hashanah begins after sundown tonight and extends until nightfall on September 26. Chabad of Mercer County, the local branch of the largest Jewish outreach organization in the world,is providing free Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services in an inclusive setting. “The Lubavitcher Rebbe, of righteous memory, insisted that Judaism is accessible to all Jews. During the Jewish High Holidays, accessibility can translate into different factors for different people, such as a non-judgmental atmosphere, affordability of the services, or the ability for a beginner to follow along,” says Lubavitch Rabbi David Dubov. “Our goal is to lower the barriers of entry, and encourage each and every Jew to actively participate in these most holy and introspective days.”   The free Chabad of Princeton service will be held at  6 p.m. at 731 Princeton Kingston Road, Princeton.  Temple Micah will also be holding a free service at 8 p.m. at Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church, Route 206. The service will be followed by a festive Oneg. No tickets or membership required. Child care available.

COMMUTE

In Princeton, topsoil and seeding are being installed along Mercer Road from the Lawrence Township line to Stony Brook Bridge this week. The work is scheduled to begin today. Work hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This work will take approximately 2 to 3 days to complete. Traffic will shift to one lane while the work is being completed. Expect delays.

The reconstruction and realignment of Route 518 between Canal Road and Route 27 began this week. The tentative schedule: Sept. 22 to Sept. 26th possible isolated utility work. Oct. 1 to Nov. 7th one lane closure with alternating traffic weekdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 10 to Nov. 21: 24/7 road closure with detour. Nov. 24 to Dec. 23rd road closure with detour weekdays 9a.m. to 4 p.m..  This will be a long-term project with an expected completion at the end of 2015.

In South Brunswick, avoid Davidson Mill Road between Fresh Ponds Road and Rt 535 (Cranbury South River Rd.) due to paving until  4 p.m. One lane open. Expect delays.

In Lawrence, Bakers Basin Road is scheduled to be closed to through traffic September 22 to September 26 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Milling and resurfacing work will continue on Pennington- Lawrenceville Road (County Route 546) from Federal City Road to U.S. Route 206. Mercer County anticipates that this work will take approximately twenty working days, weather permitting. New Jersey American Water is reconstructing Route 206 between the Fackler Road Extension and Province Line Road as part of a water main project the company completed last year. The work is being done mostly from 9 .m. to 6 a.m. The work will take about 4 weeks to complete.
