The House of Cupcakes, a winner of the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, will reopen this Friday at 33 Witherspoon Street, just a door down from its former location on Witherspoon Street.

After a fire destroyed the cupcake shop and displaced more than 40 people in March, House of Cupcakes owners Ron and Ruthie Bzdewka were able to lease the former Ferry House building right next door.

“We’re so excited to open again,” an exhausted Ron Bzdewka said Monday afternoon as he made some more preparations for the opening.

The new shop is more than double the size of the old space and will seat more than 30 people.

“At the other place we could barely seat five people, Ruthie Bzdewka said.

In addition to a variety of cupcakes, the shop will offer gourmet donuts, cookies, gelato popsicles, and beverages.

The original House of Cupcakes opened in 2008.  The House of Cupcakes has three other stores in East Brunswick, Clifton and Wayne.

Last year the Ferry House location became available after the owner  was unable to pay taxes and filed for bankruptcy.
