Today is the last day to register to vote in the November general election. In Mercer County you can register until 9 p.m. tonight in Trenton at the Mercer County Superintendent of Elections office at 640 S. Broad Street.

James Baker: “Iran: 35 Years After the Revolution – Former U.S. Secretary of State James A. Baker III, a member of Princeton’s Class of 1952, will give the inaugural lecture of the Sharmin and Bijan Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Iran and Persian Gulf Studies at 5 p.m. in McCormick Hall, Room 101. He will speak on “Iran: 35 Years after the Revolution.” A reception will follow; both are free and open to the public.

Bassem Tamimi and Eddie Glaude Jr. Discuss Non-Violent Resistance – Palestinian activist Bassem Tamimi, who will be having a conversation with Eddie Glaude Jr., Professor of Religion and African American Studies at Princeton University. They will discuss the common roots of non-violent tactics in the Civil Rights movement, and the non-violent tactics that Palestinians are employing to achieve their own liberation from the Israeli occupation. 7 p.m.,  McCormick 101, Princeton University. Co-sponsored by the Carl A. Fields Center, the Princeton Commitee on Palestine, and Princeton for Palestine.

Taiko Drums and Japanese Flutes Concert with So Percussion –  Taiko drummer Kenny Endo and Kaoru Watanabe, a noted player of Japanese flutes, will perform with So Percussion, the Edward T. Cone Performers-in-Residence, at 7 p.m. in Taplin Auditorium, Fine Hall. The event is co-sponsored by the Department of Music, the Lewis Center for the Arts and the Program in East Asian Studies. COMMUTE

An accident on Route 1 south near Quaker Bridge Road caused traffic jams this morning on Route 1, Princeton Pike and 206. Readers say the morning commute has been a nightmare. Traffic also alternating on Princeton Pike, adding to the delays.

Princeton – Road construction on Paul Robeson Place. Lane shifts from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to allow for road striping. Expect delays.

Random Road will be closed Oct. 14,15 and 16 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. to allow for milling and paving. Detours will be in place.

Linden Lane will be close on Oct. 15th and 16th between Hamilton Ave. and Spruce St. from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for sewer work. Detours will be in place.

Lawrence – Princeton Pike is one-lane only from Lenox Drive to Fackler Road for road work.

Hillsborough – Nighttime Road paving on So Branch Road between Beekman/River & Amwell Rd bet Woods/Clerico will begin Oct. 16. Expect delays.
