Shamsi, Doran and Spruill Win Princeton School Board Election

Incumbent Princeton Public Schools School Board member Afsheen Shamsi eeked out a win in the school board election today, beating newcomer Connie Witter by just 29 votes to retain her seat on the board.

Newcomer Fern Spruill was the top vote getter in the race with 2,685 votes. Newcomer Justin Doran came in second place with 2,324 votes. Shamsi had 2,248 votes and Wittier had 2,219 votes. All three winners will serve three-year terms on the board.

Spruill is a community volunteer, crossing guard, and former employee at the Princeton University Housing Office. Doran is an institutional equity trader  for the Royal Bank of Canada. Shamsi is a non-profit consultant who is currently working on her master’s degree in  strategic communications at Columbia University.

Witter, a mortgage underwriter, did not provide answers to a candidate survey conducted by Save Our Schools and did not participate in any candidate forums.

    1. Includes absentee ballots. Does not include provisional ballots (ballots cast if there was a problem at the polling location). Would not be enough ballots/votes to change the results.
