Incumbent Princeton Public Schools board member Afsheen Shamsi is down by two votes after a count of provisional ballots at the Mercer County Board of Elections office in Trenton this afternoon.

Shamsi and challenger Connie Witter were tied with 2,496 votes each after the general election Tuesday night, but 86 provisional ballots still needed to be reviewed and counted.

Shamsi picked up 20 votes for a total of 2,516 votes, but Witter picked up 22 more votes for a total of 2,518 votes.

Forty-two of the 86 provisional ballots were tossed out, officials said.

Shamsi has not yet conceded in the close race and may challenge the results.

Little is known about Witter, who declined to participate in public forums for the school board candidates.

Newcomer Fern Spruill received 3,007  votes and newcomer Justin Doran received 2,617 voters to each win a three-year term on the school board.
