Princeton Today: Dinky Service Down for Second Day

Dinky Train PrincetonLess than a week after the new Dinky station opened, the train has broken down and will not be in service for the second day in a row.

New Jersey Transit issued an alert Sunday morning at about 6:30 a.m. notifying travelers that the Dinky was out of service due to mechanical issues. Early this morning another alert was issued informing travelers that the train would be out of service for the day and would be replaced by buses.

The service interruption comes a day before the ribbon cutting at the new station on Alexander Road.

We will post an update when the train is back in service.

Slight chance of showers, southwest winds 11 to 21 mph, with a high of 71 today. Half an inch of rain or more expected Wednesday. Rain expected to mix with snow in the evening, all snow after midnight.

Lecture on Musical Performance – Dillon Parmer, an associate professor of music at the University of Ottawa, will give a musicology colloquium “Defying the Conventional: Musical Performance, Embodied Cognition and the Reconfiguration of Institutional Discourse” at 4:30 p.m.  in the Woolworth Center, Room 102, at Princeton University. Life in the South Side of Chicago – Panel discussion featuring Mitchell Duneier, the Maurice P. During Professor of Sociology at Princeton; Alison Isenberg, a professor of history and co-director of Princeton’s Program in Urban Studies; artist Jon Lowenstein; and Floyd Morris, president and CEO of Children’s Futures, at 4:30 p.m. in Robertson Hall, Room 016, at the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University. A public reception will follow in the Bernstein Gallery. The discussion coincides with an art exhibit titled, “South Side,” in the gallery, which features the work of Lowenstein. Free.

COMMUTE

Route 27 is closed in both directions between Bennetts Lane and Cozzens Lane due to a transformer fire. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and plan alternate routes for the morning commute.

Franklin Corner Road was closed late last week as utility work continued between Lewisville Road and Princeton Pike. The township has not confirmed whether the road has reopened.

An Elizabethtown Gas maintenance project along Hopewell-Pennington Road (Rt 654) and  Marshalls Corner (Rt 612) in Hopewell is underway. Work hours will be between 9 am and 3:30 p.m. Traffic will need to be alternated during parts of this maintenance work. Motorists should expect minor delays. This project is expected to last one month.

There has been a schedule change for the reconstruction and realignment of County Route 518 between Canal Road and Carroll Place. The road closing from Nov. 10 to Dec. 21 has been delayed. Revised dates will be posted when the new schedule has been set.

  1. Maybe now the Save the Dinky folks will realize that the location of the station doesn’t matter if NJ Transit can’t keep the train running.
