Alfred  “Rik” F. Dugan, III has been appointed the next headmaster of the Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart, the school’s board of trustees announced.

This appointment concludes an extensive search process launched to identify a successor to Founding Olen Kalkus, the founding headmaster of the school. Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart is the only independent school for boys in junior kindergarten through grade 8 in New Jersey and is accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The school is a member of the International Network of Sacred Heart Schools.

Dugan, currently the Director of Upper School at Far Hills Country Day School in Far Hills, will join the Princeton Academy community beginning July 1, 2015.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rik and his family to Princeton Academy,” Princeton Academy Board of Trustees Chair Christian Schade said. “Rik’s outstanding achievements as an administrator, teacher, coach and adviser led to the enthusiastic and unanimous support for Rik to lead our school forward.”

Dugan graduated from Williams College with a bachelor’s degree in English and holds a master’s degree in education leadership from the Teachers College at  Columbia University. He has served at Far Hills Country Day School since 2007. Prior to working at Far Hills Country Day School, Dugan was a teacher, administrator and coach at Delbarton School in Morristown.

“It is an honor to be appointed as Princeton Academy’s second headmaster. The transformative power and potential of an all-boys educational experience, embedded in the Sacred Heart tradition, are unlimited,” Dugan said. “Building upon the school’s foundation of excellence, I am inspired to lead the community into its next brilliant phase of life.
