More than a hundred Mercer County area residents and officials traveled to Washington DC for Bonnie Watson Coleman’s swearing-in ceremony.

Watson Coleman, who represents the 12th District, took her oath of office today at the U.S. Capitol as she was sworn in with the 114th Congress.

Watson Coleman is the first African-American woman to represent New Jersey in Congress and the first woman to represent the state in more than a decade.

She replaced fellow Democrat Rush Holt, who announced last February that he would not be seeking re-election.
