Paul Sigmund IV, the son of the late Princeton Borough Mayor Barbara Boggs Sigmund, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a drug charge in municipal court in Hopewell Township.

Sigmund was ordered to pay $1,925 in fines and will be supervised until he successfully completes substance abuse treatment.

In September of 2014, Sigmund was arrested by Princeton Police for a hit-and-run accident after he struck a pole in the municipal parking lot on Park Place in Princeton on a Sunday morning while driving his 2012 Chevy Malibu. He was found in possession of six decks of heroin and several hypodermic needles. He was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of hypodermic syringes, being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, and driving while intoxicated.

A former chief of staff for the City of Trenton, Sigmund was arrested in Trenton in 2011 for heroin possession and aggravated assault on a police officer following his arrest just blocks from city hall.

His case was moved from Princeton to Hopewell Township due to a conflict of interest. Princeton Municipal Prosecutor Reed Gusciora, a Democrat who serves as the Deputy Majority Leader in the New Jersey Assembly, knows the Sigmund family and worked on political campaigns for Barbara Sigmund.

Sigmund’s lawyer said he was remorseful for his actions, and told the local press the incident happened after the death of his father, Princeton University Professor Paul Sigmund, and the death of his uncle.
