Mary_CourtneyFolk Concert with Mary Courtney  – The Princeton Folk Music Society presents County Kerry-born, singer / songwriter Mary Courtney as the final concert this season. Courtney is recognized as the most striking interpreter of songs on the Irish-American scene. Her voice has a beauty, depth and clarity of tone that few can equal. Her music is a collaboration of traditional Irish music and music with a progressive social conscience.  8:15  to 10:30 p.m., Christ Congregation Church, 50 Walnut Lane, Princeton. Door opens at 7:30 p.m. Admission $20 ($15 members, $10 students, $5 children).

Dancing Under the Stars –  Members of Central Jersey Dance give demonstrations and lead others in an evening of dancing.  Continues twice monthly through September. 7 to 10 p.m. Hinds Plaza, weather permitting; or Princeton Public Library Community Room. Free. Co-sponsored by the library and Central Jersey Dance.

First Time for Everything – A new play created and performed by OnStage Seniors: A Community Project of McCarter Theatre.This group of community performers (all over 55 years of age) works each year on a combination of acting training, creation of a new work drawn from interviews on a chosen theme, and rehearsal/performance. Each performance is followed by a post-show discussion with the audience.  First Time for Everything is a documentary performance based on word-for-word interviews with community members of all ages about “firsts” – first loves, first day of school, first borns, and more. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. in McCarter’s Berlind rehearsal room. This community-based performance is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Seating reservations may be made by calling the McCarter Box Office at 609-258-2787.

The reception scheduled for tonight for the Eclectic Expressions exhibition at Mala Polska has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. A follow-up reception and exhibition will be announced soon.

Saturday, May 16

5th Annual Princeton Wheels Rodeo  – Learn about safety and have fun with the Princeton Police! The event is open to bikes, tricycles, skateboards, and rollerblades; and will include a road course, free raffles, free refreshments, and free car seat inspections. Bicycle helmets will be required for the road course. The first 100 kids will receive a free bicycle helmet.  10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Princeton Municipal Parking Lot, 400 Witherspoon Street, Princeton, N.J. Rain date will be Sunday, May 17.

Armed Forces Day 5k and 1 mile Fun Run to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project – Sponsored by the WW PBA 271, the Armed Forces Day 5k and 1 mile Fun Run to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project will be kicking off this Saturday Morning at Carnegie Center. Race starts at 8:45 a.m. at 101 Carnegie Center Drive. Register on site if space still available. Late registration is $40.

Re-Imagine Day…Going Green with LPP – Join Lawrenceville Presbyterian Preschool for a fun community event that will feature a local market, including vegetable and flower transplants from Cherry Grove Organic Farm, Hlubik Farms and Kale’s nursery as well as local food and artists and lightly used garden tools and supplies. Participating local businesses include the Happy Wanderer Bakery, Terra Momo Learning Kitchen, TerraCycle, the Pensive Weed, the Artisan Tree. The event will also feature local nonprofits with information to share about sustainable living.  9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church, 2688 Main Street, Lawrenceville, NJ. Healthy Children Healthy Planet school garden fair at Riverside School – Riverside School’s  green community event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Celebrate school gardens and also raising funds to sustain Riverside School’s garden education programs.Several of our exhibitors are returning (yoga in the garden, crafts, rescue vehicles). We’ll have music, delicious food (local partners, Bent Spoon and Whole Earth), a plant sale, garden tours and activities for kids and their relatives, and more.  Princeton Riverside School garden, 58 Riverside Dr, Princeton, NJ 08540. SolarJam 2015 – SolarJam 2015: Student Solar Fair Open to the Public Sponsored by PSEG, Organized by OASIS   Princeton area’s second student solar celebration, “SolarJam 2015,” will be held on May 16 (rain date May 17) from noon-2 p.m. at Princeton High School. Open to students from 3rd-8th grade who will build solar mini cars or create passive solar projects. Pennington Day – Pennington Day is held in downtown Pennington Boro along Main Street and adjacent roads intersecting Main Street from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Pennington Day’s mission is to further the borough’s community spirit and identity as a community and enhance its quality of life, while providing community groups, civic organizations and businesses throughout Hopewell Valley an opportunity to inform the community of their mission. Food vendors, crafters and nonprofits.

Annual Miki & Friends 5K Walk and Run for Attitudes in Reverse – Celebrating how dogs are good for our mental health. AIR (Attitudes in Reverse) hosts this event to focus on health – both physical and mental health – and the benefits dogs offer. 5K run and dog walk, dog activities and demonstrations, vendors, concert, special guests including Gil McKinney of TV’s Supernatural and Jen Jacob of Girls. 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mercer County Park East Picnic Area, 1638 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor Township, NJ. Princeton Symphony Orchestra Presents Lemony Snicket’s “The Composer is Dead” –  Narrator Julian Grant unveils and interrogates every instrument of the orchestra as he solves Lemony Snicket’s murder mystery, music by Nathaniel Stookey. Plus, John Williams’ Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Suite and Anatol Liadov’s Baba-Yaga, Op. 56. PSO Music Director Rossen Milanov conducts. 2:30 p.m. Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall, Princeton University, Princeton. General admission: $10 adult, $5 children.

VOICES: Continuing Conversations for Teens – Teens gather for a moderated discussion about how the declared candidates for president are addressing social justice. Snacks will be served. 3 p.m. Princeton Public Library Conference Room. Free.

Art Exhibit Opening for Jean Cocteau – Exhibit runs May 16 – July 26 at Wessel + O’Connor Fine Art, 7 North Main Street in Lambertville.  Reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Free.

Burgers & Band(aids) with EMS  – The Montgomery Emergency Medical Squad cadets invite you to their all you can eat BBQ fundraiser. Burgers and Band(aids) is a time for you to come out and support your local EMS squad and listen to live music from Montgomery High School students. This Community Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Montgomery EMS squad building on 8 Harlingen Road, Belle Mead, NJ 08502. The event kicks of EMS Services Week in Montgomery.All proceeds will go to Montgomery EMS.  The cost of Admission to this event is $10 for an adult and $7 for Seniors and children under 12.

Premier Screening of “Jersey Justice” at The Princeton Garden Theater  – Sayre Woods Media presents the theatrical release of “Jersey Justice” starring Blanche Baker, Bo Svenson, and Christopher Mann. The premier event will be followed by a 12:30 meet and greet at The Ivy Inn, 248 Nassau Street Princeton with film makers, stars and special guests. The Princeton Garden Theaters is located at 160 Nassau St, Princeton, NJ 08542. Tickets are available at the box office. 9 a.m. $10.

Nassau Film Festival – The Nassau Film Festival, Princeton’s newest film festival, will take place at Princeton’s Garden Theatre (160 Nassau Street), starting at 11:30 a.m. This event is free and open to the public. The festival gives an opportunity for established and emerging filmmakers to have their short films screened. The roster of filmmakers include Nonny Okwelogu, a graduating senior Princeton University; Tatianna Sims, River Macleod, Jordan Hunter, Talia Zinder, all students at Princeton High School; Troy Buckley, Andrea Mazzariello of Princeton; Ilene Dube of Princeton Junction; Vijay Adirreddy of North Brunswick; James Mercer of Levittown, PA; Jacob Greenawalt of Ardmore, PA; Adam Chinoy of Colonia; Christopher Mendez of New Providence; Luke Lorentzen, a film studies major at Stanford University; and Michael Zayac, a student in the BFA filmmaking program at Montclair University. Free Herb Growing Class at Terhune Orchards – Pam Mount, owner of Terhune Orchards, will show you how to set up your herb garden, harvest herbs and use them for cooking. Pam will “show and tell” when she discusses the different kinds of herbs she grows in her demonstration herb garden. The group will tour the perennial gardens at Terhune Orchards. Princeton Symphony Orchestra Presents Viva Verdi! –  Concert features excerpts from Giuseppe Verdi’s Il Trovatore, La Traviata, and Aida and spotlighting gifted young opera stars Michelle Johnson, soprano; Margaret Lattimore, mezzo; Zach Borichevsky, tenor; and Hugh Russell, baritone. PSO Music Director Rossen Milanov conducts. 3 p.m. pre-concert Talk for concert attendees. Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall, on the campus of Princeton University, 4 p.m.. Tickets $30 and up.

Shakespeare in the Library: As You Like It –  Come and celebrate Shakespeare’s 451st birthday with an abridged version of his “As You Like It,” performed by Princeton High School students. The show will run approximately 50 minutes with no intermission. All ages are welcome. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided. 4 p.m. Princeton Public Library Community Room. Free.

Ways to Maintain an Affordable Princeton – The Princeton Community Democratic Organization  will host a forum on one of the most important issues facing the Princeton community: affordability. The meeting will begin with five presentations that explore how property taxes are divided and where savings could be found; what combination of family size, family income, and county of residence makes you eligible for affordable housing in New Jersey; whether affordable housing is best provided by commercial developers or the town;  how much affordable housing Princeton needs; and how Princeton University influences Princeton’s affordability. 7 p.m., Suzanne Patterson Center, 45 Stockton Street, Princeton.
