Fire in Hopewell Borough House Kills Several Pets

A house on the first block of Vorhees Avenue at the intersection with Center Street in Hopewell Borough caught on fire Monday morning around 8:15 a.m.

The owner of the home was at work, but several animals perished in the fire, including a few dogs, more than half a dozen cats, and a few parrots.

Fireman were able to put our the blaze in under an hour, but the fire rekindled on the second floor later in the morning. The house was packed with belongings.

The cause of the fire has not been determined yet. The house is uninhabitable because of fire, smoke and water damage.

The Hopewell Fire Department was assisted by the Pennington Fire Company, the Union Fire Company, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, the Lawrenceville Fire Company, the Lawrence Road Fire Department, the West Trenton Fire Department, Montgomery Fire Department Station 46, the West Amwell Fire Department and the Rocky Hill Fire Department.
