Planet Princeton Weekend Picks, June 19-21

The ninth annual Art All Night festival takes place this weekend in Trenton. Head to the capital city and see why people from all over the county, state and beyond consider the 24-hour arts celebration a highlight of the year.

Thousands of visitors are expected to attend the 24-hour gathering at the Roebling Wire Works this Saturday and Sunday that has become one of the top annual events in the city.

Artists can drop off a piece of art to display tonight, Friday, June 19 between 5 and 9 p.m. and Saturday, June 20 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Last year, more 1,000 pieces of art were on display ranging from drawings by children to works by professional sculptors.

Art All Night also features live music on three stages, including everything from rockabilly and reggae to rock, jazz and more.

Art All Night runs from 3 p.m. Saturday until 3 p.m. Sunday at the 
Roebling Wire Works, 675 S. Clinton Ave., Trenton. The festival also features an outdoor food court that includes a variety of food vendors and food trucks. Beverages are also served at the event. Art All Night is free but donations are accepted at the door.

Friday, June 19

Art Exhibit Opening at the D&R Greenway Land Trust – Reception for “Palette with Purpose: Color in Nature.” On view until July 31. Johnson Education Center, 1 Preservation Place, Princeton. 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Free.

Princeton Summer Theater presents Metamorphoses by Mary Zimmerman – Mary Zimmerman’s Tony-Award nominated play brings Ovid’s classic tales to life through a mixture of contemporary and ancient styles, the use of musical accompaniment, and a shifting world of fabrics. An exploration of change, rebirth, and the persistence of the human spirit, Metamorphoses takes classic stories and makes them relevant to modern audiences. June 19-20 at 8p.m.; June 20 & 21 matinees at 2 p.m.  Tickets $22-$27.50.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The Princeton Festival -An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime in this comedic musical! 8 p.m. Princeton University, Matthews Acting Studio, Lewis Center for the Arts, 185 Nassau Street. Admission $45.

Saturday, June 20

Bike Tour with the Delaware & Raritan Canal Watch – The Delaware & Raritan Canal Watch will hold a free history tour by bicycle along the D&R Canal towpath on Saturday, June 20, from Kingston to Griggstown and back. Cyclists will meet 10 a.m. at the locktender’s house in Kingston, located off Route 27, just north of the bridges over the Millstone River and canal, for the 10-mile round-trip ride. Helmets are required and cyclists are advised to bring water.

Lil Chefs Event at Quaker Bridge Mall – Your little chefs are invited to Quaker Bridge Mall to show off their culinary skills. Children will have a blast as they get their hands dirty whipping up their delicious masterpiece(s). 1 p.m. in center court. Quaker Bridge Mall, 150 Quaker Bridge Mall, Lawrence Township.

Dairy Day at the Howell Living History Farm – Meet milking goats, and help farmers make cheese, butter and ice cream. Activities chedule: cheese making at 11 a.m., ice cream making at 1:30 p.m. and butter making throughout the day. Goat-milking demonstrations and bottle feeding baby goats will also take place throughout the day. A craft program for children, “Cheese Box,” will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. $3 fee for craft. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 70 Woodens Lane, Lambertville, NJ 08530. Parking and admission are free.

Mercer County Cultural Festival – Celebrate diverse cultures through traditional food, cultural music, art, and dance performances. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.,Mercer County Park. Free admission and parking.

Princeton Fire Department Parade – The annual Princeton Fire Department Parade will be held beginning at 3 p.m. The parade route will be on Nassau Street from Chestnut Street west to Monument Hall at Bayard Lane and Stockton Street. Nassau Street will be closed during the parade and detours will be in place.

Summer Movie on the Green – Come enjoy a family-friendly movie under the stars on the Green starting at 8:45 p.m. “Horton Hears a Who” is the selection for June 20. Palmer Square. Free.

Concordia Chamber Players, The Princeton Festival – The brightest talents of the chamber music world come together to perform as members of the Concordia Chamber Players. 7:30 p.m. All Saints’ Church, 16 All Saints’ Rd Princeton, NJ. Admission $35.

Run for Dad – Annual Father’s Day 5K run and 2K walk to increase awareness about prostate cancer and raise funds for American Cancer Society’s research, education, and screening projects. West Windsor Food Truck Fete – Food trucks, music, children’s activities, photobooth, and more. Vaughn Drive parking lot, Princeton Junction Train Station, West Windsor. 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Admission $3.

Opera: Le nozze di Figaro, The Princeton Festival – The Marriage of Figaro has something for everyone: screwball comedy, touching love story, madcap bedroom farce, snarky social satire, heartfelt longing, slapstick humor, and uplifting moral sentiment.

Theologian Jürgen Moltmann Visits Princeton Theological Seminary – Jürgen Moltmann, one of the foremost religious thinkers in the world and a longtime friend of Swiss Reformed theologian Karl Barth, will present the opening lecture of the 2015 Annual Karl Barth Conference. Moltmann is professor emeritus of systematic theology at the University of Tübingen in Germany and contributed many books to the field of theology, including Theology of Hope (Fortress Press, 1993), The Crucified God (Fortress Press, 1993), and The Trinity and the Kingdom. 7:30 p.m. Miller Chapel. Editor’s Note – Two events have been cancelled so far for this weekend. The Princeton HealthCare White Elephant Rummage sale has been postponed. The new date will be announced soon. The Terhune Orchards’ Firefly Festival will be held next Sunday because of the weather forecast for this Sunday.
