Letters: ETS Firecracker 5K Rescheduled for June 30

princeton letter_2If there was a rainbow after Tuesday night’s storm, it was the result of the wonderful energy that exuberates from the people and places at ETS (Educational Testing Service.)  While our 11th Annual ETS Firecracker 5K was unable to commence due to lightning and thunderstorms, “Team ETS” was quick to assure us we could reschedule the Run/Walk for this Tuesday, June 30th, at 7:30 p.m.

The event will go on as planned, thanks to the willingness of ETS to repeat its awesome support, and to encourage others to do so as well. For those of you who are new to the Firecracker 5K, this beloved annual fundraising event benefits the Bilingual Nursery School here at the YWCA Princeton. Our goal is to gather together each year, rain or shine, and allow everyone to show their support of our English-learning families. By participating in the 5K, or simply logging on to www.gofundme.com/ETSFirecracker5K, participants help prepare bilingual children (and their parents) for Kindergarten!

In addition to Team ETS, led by Walt MacDonald, David Hobson, Jack Hayon (our Pace Bike), Lenora Green, Laurie Russell and Kitara Garner, we also thank our Honorary Chair, former Princeton Mayor Phyllis Marchand, and our Co-Chairs, Joe Galdo of Mercadien and Kari Barrio of Hopewell Valley Community Bank.

At YWCA Princeton, we know education is the most effective way to respond to racism, inequality, poverty, and the social divide that is escalating police-related violence. Our message is bold and consistent: society’s challenges are challenges to all of humanity. Our leadership represents a confident, iconic constituency of women and families who are committed to inclusivity, while modeling justice, dignity and peace. We know what real change looks like!

We thank everyone involved for helping us reschedule this race! I hope our paths cross when we return to 660 Rosedale Road this Tuesday evening, June 30th, for our 11th Annual ETS Firecracker 5K!  You can find more information at www.ywcaprinceton.org/5K

Sincerely,

Judith Hutton

  1. Thank you, Planet Princeton, for helping us spread the word. We’re hoping the 600+ runners who registered for June 23rd will be able to return this Tuesday. We have chip timing and can register even more participants on June 30th at 6 p.m. at ETS. Come out and support our English-learning families!
