Construction Worker Injured at AvalonBay Site in Princeton

arts avalonbayA construction worker was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning, Aug. 11, after he fell into an elevator shaft at the AvalonBay apartment site on Witherspoon Street.

Manuel Otero, 51, of Newark reportedly slipped from a scaffold and fell approximately 12 feet into an elevator shaft around 10:50 a.m. He managed to climb out with the aid of other workers before the arrival of emergency personnel.

Princeton Police, Princeton First Aid and Rescue, and the Princeton Fire Department responded to the the AvalonBay Communities construction site at 353 Witherspoon Street.

Otero, who works for Passaic-based ENN Construction Co., was alert and conscious, but sustained serious lacerations to his head and face. The Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad transported him to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton.
