Princeton Resident Clayton Marsh Named Head of New Independent School in Arkansas

Princeton resident Clayton Marsh, who has served as deputy dean of the college at Princeton University since 2011, will leave the Ivy League school to become the founding head of a new independent school in Bentonville, Arkansas in January.

The new school is funded by the Walton Family Foundation,which is led by the children and grandchildren of Sam and Helen Walton, the founders of retail giant Walmart. The school will initially offer classes for students in middle school and high school. Marsh will lead all aspects of the school’s development, including curriculum and infrastructure.

Marsh, who is also a lecturer in English at Princeton, previously served as university counsel for nine years. Prior to joining the Princeton administration in 2002, he practiced commercial litigation in New York for five years.  He began his career as an educator at the Lawrenceville School, where he taught English, served as a resident housemaster, and coached football and wrestling for seven years.

A 1985 graduate of Princeton University with a bachelor’s degree in English, Marsh earned a master’s degree in English from Stanford University in 1986, a doctorate in English and comparative literature from Columbia University in 1995, and a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1997.
