Statehouse Rally and Protest against PennEast Pipeline Set for Sept. 29

A rally and protest against the PennEast Pipeline set for this Tuesday, Sept. 29, will target PSE&G because they are one of the major owners of the natural gas pipeline.

If approved, the new pipeline woud stretch 114 miles, from Luzerne County, Pa. to Hunterdon County and Hopewell in Mercer County.

PennEast has filed their application to FERC. Speakers will urge PSE&G to withdraw their application and lead activists and concerned residents for one-block march to protest at PSE&G’s office. The rally will begin at noon at the Statehouse steps at 125 West State Street in Trenton. A march and protest at the PSE&G office at 15 West State Street will follow.

Organizes include the New Jersey Sierra Club, the Delaware Riverkeeper Network, Berks Gas Truth, Clean Water Action, and Environment New Jersey.

“This pipeline will not only cut an ugly scar in our valley and destroying open space, wetlands, forests, and wildlife. This pipeline will promote fracking, cause water and air pollution as well as pose a safety threat to our communities,” said Jeff Tittel, director of the New Jersey Sierra Club.

“This is the start of our campaign to protect the Delaware River Valley from this dangerous pipeline. We will keep fighting until this pipeline is stopped,” Tittel said. “In New Jersey, two thirds of landowners have said no to PennEast as well as every town along the route. We are going to hold PennEast’s partners like PSE&G and UGI accountable for this pipeline. We are going to keep fighting until this pipeline is defeated no matter what it takes. This valley is our valley, it belongs to all of us. PennEast, PSE&G, and UGI, get the FERC out of our valley.”
