In anticipation of the upcoming exhibition “Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh: Couple of an Age,” the Morven Museum & Garden has commissioned a sculpture of Charles Lindbergh’s plane, the Spirit of St. Louis.

The sculpture will be displayed on the museum’s Great Lawn. It will be built out of wood, true to the dimensions of the actual plane except for the wing span, which has been reduced for the safety reasons.

Chicago-based artist Bernard Williams will be leading the construction of The Spirit of St. Louis sculpture. Morven is looking for volunteers to fill 2½-hour shifts for a week to assist with carpentry, painting, and more. Volunteers are invited to participate for one day or for the whole week if they like.

Volunteers can participate Saturday, Oct. 17 through Sunday, Oct. 25. The first shift is 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the second shift is 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Email Pam Ruch to reserve your spot at pruch@morven.org.

The unveiling of the sculpture is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 25th at 1 p.m. The exhibit opens Nov. 13. For more information visit www.morven.org or call Barbara Webb at 609-924-8144 x 101.
