Princeton University Theater Program Director Timothy Vasen Dies at Age 51

Timothy Vasen, the director of the theater program at Princeton University, died on Monday, Dec. 28, in Brooklyn. He was 51.

Vasen died following an accident at his home, according to his colleagues at the Lewis Center for the Arts.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m. at 185 Nassau Street on the Princeton University campus.

Vasen joined the Princeton University theater program in 1993, and was named the director in 2012.

 

A lecturer at the Yale School of Drama, he also taught or directed at a number of professional training programs, including New York University’s Tisch Graduate Acting Program, the Chautauqua Conservatory, Johns Hopkins University, the La Jolla Playhouse Conservatory, and the Academy for Classical Acting at the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C.

He served for five seasons as the resident director of Centerstage in Baltimore, where he directed a range of classics and premieres of new plays. He also directed productions at Playwrights Horizons, South Coast Repertory, the Children’s Theater Company in Minneapolis, and the Philadelphia Theater Company.
