Early Morning Fire in Hopewell Displaces Family of Five

hopewell fireA fire that broke out at a home on Applewood Drive in Hopewell Township just after 4 a.m. has displaced a parent and four children, police said.

Police arrived at the home  on Applewood, which is off of Moores Mill Mt Rose Road, at 4:23 a.m. Thursday morning and observed a fire in the cathedral ceiling area of a second floor bedroom. The Hopewell Fire Department extinguished the fire.

The five occupants of the home were outside when police arrived. There were no reported injuries. The damage was minor but the home is not habitable, police said.

The fire does not seem suspicious in nature and is believed to have originated in the area of a ceiling fan mounted that was to the cathedral ceiling, police said.

Responding agencies included the Pennington Fire Department, the Union Fire Company, the Lawrenceville Fire Company, Montgomery Fire Company #2, the Rocky Hill Fire Department and Hopewell Valley Emergency Services.

This incident remains under investigation by the Hopewell Township Police Department, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services and the Mercer County Fire Marshalls Office.
