Junior Colin Lualdi, a physics major who is Princeton’s only deaf student, teaches sign language to his fellow students, has establishing an American Sign Language club and language table, and advocates for American Sign Language-related classes. His efforts were featured on the Princeton University website today.

Lualdi founded the Princeton University American Sign Language Club his first semester. The club hosts events and connects deaf and hard-of-hearing students with alumni.

This fall, Princeton University’s linguistics program offered the course “Linguistics of American Sign Language” for the first time. The course was taught by Eileen Forestal, a lecturer in the Princeton Council of Humanities and the program in linguistics who is deaf. Some students who are part of the club have family members or friends who are deaf, while others want to learn American Sign Language just like they would learn any other language.
