A 45-year-old woman was arrested Saturday morning for allegedly murdering her mother-in-law East Windsor earlier this week.

Tasneem Diwan has been charged with one count of murder, one count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon in the murder of 73-year-old Safia Diwan.

Tasneem Diwan was observed late Friday evening in the bus terminal area of the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City. She was detained by security officers and Atlantic City Police.

Members of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the East Windsor Township Police Department transported Diwan back to the area and continued the investigation.

On Jan. 26, Diwan allegedly struck her mother-in-law in the head
numerous times with an unknown object in the Mozart Court home where they lived together.

The East Windsor Police responded to the residence just after 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving a 911 call. Upon arrival, police found the victim lying deceased in a front office. An autopsy indicated
the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

The charges are a result of an investigation by prosecutor’s Detective Eric Hastings, the Mercer County Homicide Task Force, and the East Windsor Township Police Department.

Bail was set at $1 million cash or bond by Mercer County Superior Court Judge Robert Billmeier. A court date has not been scheduled yet.
