In Search of Owls

The evening begins indoors with a presentation that will introduce you to owls, their calls and adaptations. After a Naturalist-led night hike in search of the nocturnal raptors, we will warm up indoors with a hot beverage. Families (children 6 years and up) and adults, registration is required.  7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Stony Brook Millstone Watershed.

Princeton Community Dance

Princeton Special Sports and the Princeton Recreation Department sponsor monthly dances (with pizza!) for adults and teens with special needs. Montgomery Kid Connection Preschool Open House

teachers Montgomery Kid ConnectionMontgomery Kid Connection will be hosting an open house for new families on Saturday February 6th from 9 a.m. to noon. All are invited to meet and greet teachers, tour the building, and gather info about the exceptional academic offerings and the fun and nurturing learning environment of Kid Connection. Kid Connection teachers will be available to speak to interested parents and give informal tours of the program’s comprehensive academic and social learning environment. Kid Connection makes learning fun and provides a smooth transition to the public school district’s K-2 Orchard Hill Elementary School right next door. Boy Scout Weather Merit Badge Workshop

Join Jeff Hoagland for this morning workshop designed to help Boy Scouts earn the Weather merit badge. Out on the Watershed Reserve, scouts will examine the effects of Hurricanes Sandy or Irene while exploring the greater world of meteorology. Scouts will visit the Watershed Center’s weather station and examine and interpret recent weather data onsite. 9:00 am to noon.

Howell Living History Farm Parent and Child Farmhands Info. Session

The Howell Living History Farm will accept applications for parent and child enrollment in its 2016 winter Farmhands Program. The program is designed to introduce children to life on the farm, while parents volunteer time helping the Howell Farm staff work with visitors to the farm. One parent must work at the farm as a volunteer in exchange for one child’s participation in the program. No
experience is necessary. To register, parents must attend an organizational meeting  at 9 a.m. in the Howell Farm Visitor Center. The meeting is intended for parents only. The program starts on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Winter Exploration Geocache

This “event-cache” is a great introduction to the hobby of geocaching as well as the ecology of winter. Track animals, meet winter weeds, talk with birds and much more. Appropriate for beginners or experienced cachers, participants must provide their own GPS unit. Families welcome, light refreshments, donations accepted. 1:30 p.m. at the Watershed.

Mutts cartoonist McDonnellLocal resident Patrick McDonnell, MUTTS cartoonist and Caldecott Honor winning children’s book author, will be speaking, drawing and taking questions at the Princeton Library on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. His latest book, “Thank You and Goodnight” was a New York Times Notable Book for 2015. SAVE Animal Shelter will also be on-site to let the public know about the animals at their shelter that are available for adoption.
