Princeton High School Student Raising Money to Attend Leadership Program at Georgetown University

EveredA local teen who has been selected to attend a special summer program for future leaders at Georgetown University is seeking the community’s support to help her attend.

Margaret Evered, 16, a sophomore at Princeton High School, has been selected to attend the Junior State of America Summer School. She must raise $4,000 to attend the program.

She is determined to raise the money herself and is working after school jobs, seeking sponsors, and hitting the local service club circuit to reach her goal.

Evered was accepted into the program because of her outstanding academic record and potential for leadership. The president of her sophomore class, she is a Democracy fellow, officer of expansion for Odyssey of the Mind, and a member of the teen advisory board at the Princeton Public Library.

The 2016 Junior Statesmen Summer School will be held from June 26th- July 17th. Evered will study international relations at the college level. The program includes daily debates, a speakers program where students will meet and question political leaders, and local field trips to places like the Pentagon and Capitol Hill.

“As class president at my high school and a member of our JSA chapter I firmly believe that this program will provide me with experiences necessary to my pursuit of a career in politics,” she said. “Please make a donation to help me become one of the future voices of America as I follow my passion for ensuring human rights through equality of education, access to medical help and opportunities to women and children both internationally and domestically.”

If you’d like to donate to support her efforts, you can contribute online here. Evered has raised more than $1,200 online so far. She hopes to raise at least another $800 online.
