Students from the Princeton High School Choir, along with guest director J. Donald Dumpson, are treating students at all six Princeton Public Schools to samples of the upcoming Spirituals and Gospel Festival concert as part of the district’s Black History Month celebrations this month. In addition to taking in the sounds and rhythms, students are gaining insights from Dumpson about these American genres and how the music expresses both joy and sorrow.

The high school choirs will perform in a concert at 7:30 p.m. this Friday, Feb. 19, in the Princeton High School Performing Arts Center, which is located at the corner of Walnut Lane and Franklin Avenue.

The concert will feature Dumpson, all of the Princeton High School choirs, singers from First Baptist Church and Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church, the Revelation Praise Dance Ministry of First Baptist Church, and the Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church dance ministry.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased in advance from students in the Princeton High choira or by calling Mia Gargan at (609) 806-4270. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
