The historic former Princeton post office will be converted into a brew pub and restaurant.

Triumph Brewery will relocate from its Nassau Street location to the post office site.

The California-based developer for the project plans to renovate the post office on Palmer Square while maintaining the historic look and feel of the post office.

Only one major modification to the building the developer is proposing is removing the loading docks across from Brooks Brothers and replacing them with a glass entrance to the eatery and brewpub.

The developer is David Eichler of 20 Palmer Square East, LLC. He is based in California and is being represented by local lawyer Richard Goldman, local architecture firm Richardson Smith Architects, and preservation architecture firm Mills-Schnoering Architects.

A mezzanine is proposed for the building that will seat 36 people, and an elevator would be installed in the building. The planning documents did not list how many people total the brewpub will be able to seat.

The new Triumph location will serve lunch, dinner, and a late night menu, and be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday-Thursday, and 11:30 a.m. until 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Proposed Sunday hours are noon until midnight. Beer, wine and liquor will be served.

The basement would be used for deliveries and storage, and the developer says no new parking would be needed because of the metered parking.

According to the plans on file at town hall, Eichler wants to create an eatery that “respects the history of the building and post office, and blends into Palmer Square.”

The post office sale was finalized several months ago and the post office was relocated to the 7-Eleven building on Nassau Street last year.

  1. yes! would be a great place for princeton. Socializing in Palmer sq.. perfect. Yankee Doodle Tap room can’t figure out it’s outdoor service. And both it and triumph are like caves inside…which I find okay in winter but not the rest of the year. Looking forward to seeing this happen…and cross fingers A&B and others don’t block it from happening.

  2. It could be called the “Mail It Inn”.

Or have an Internet contest to choose the best name.
