Princeton Theological Seminary Appoints Three New Faculty Members

Princeton Theological Seminary has announced the appointments of three new faculty members. Gerald Liu, Margarita Mooney and Mark S. Smith officially will begin their new jobs in Princeton on July 1.

Liu is currently an assistant professor of homiletics and worship at Drew Theological School. He earned his master’s of divinity from the Candler School of Theology, and completed his doctorate at Vanderbilt University. He is a United Methodist minister. He is also the editor of the worship reviews for the online journal “Homiletic.”

MooneyMooney, an associate professor of congregational studies, will join the school’s department of practical theology. She is curently an associate research scientist in the department of sociology at Yale University. She earned her master’s degree and doctorate from Princeton University. She has conducted research projects in the United States, Latin America, and Europe.

SmithSmith will join the school’s department of Biblical studies as the Helena Professor of Old Testament Literature and Exegesis. He is the Skirball Professor of Hebrew Bible and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at New York University, and is a two-time winner of the school’s Golden Dozen Award for excellence in undergraduate teaching. The author of more than 100 articles and fifteen books, he specializes in Israelite religion and the Hebrew Bible, as well as the literature and religion of the Late Bronze Age Ugarit. He received master’s degrees from The Catholic University of America, Harvard University, and Yale University, and completed his doctorate at Yale University.
