Princeton Farmers’ Market Kicks Off 2016 Outdoor Season Thursday

The Princeton Farmers’ Market will kick off its outdoor season tomorrow, May 19. The market will be held on Hinds Plaza on Witherspoon Street every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, through Nov. 17.

This year the market features 25 vendors offering local organic produce, free range beef, poultry, pork, eggs, cheese, baked goods, nut butters, coffee, flowers, honey, pickles, crepes, juice and other items.

Every week the market will host live music from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and a different non-profit will be featured. The market also features one table rotating vendor table.

This season, the market is partnering with the Princeton Public Library to host community events on the first and fourth Thursday of each month. The first event will be a cookbook launch on June 2nd with local author John Holl.

Market sponsors for 2016 include the JM Group, Callaway Henderson Sotheby’s International Realty, Borden Perlman Salisbury & Kelly, Heartland, PNC Bank, the town of Princeton, Agricola, the Terra Momo Restaurant Group, and the Princeton Public Library.

Now in its eighth year, the market was founded by Jack Morrison, president of the JM Group, with the help of a small group of supporters. The first market was held in the two front parking lots of the old Wild Oats site and the West Coast Video building on Nassau Street. The following season the market was moved to its permanent home on Hinds Plaza.

“The growth of the market is a direct result of the patrons, sponsors, farmers, and artisans who have made a special commitment to our mission of creating a wholesome, economically and environmentally sustainable community,” Morrison said of the market’s success.
