Severe Thunderstorm Warning, Flash Flood Warning in Effect

The severe thunderstorm warning that has been in effect since late Monday afternoon has been extended until 7:45 p.m. for Central New Jersey and the eastern part of Bucks County, Pa.

A flash flood warning is in effect for Central New Jersey until 10:15 p.m. Roads may become impassable due to flooding.

Hail, damaging winds, lightning and torrential downpours are all possible. Area police departments are reporting that the storm has already brought down trees and wires.

In Princeton, readers report that Harrison Street is closed near the Princeton Shopping Center and people are unable to reach stores.

In Montgomery, Route 601 near the Railroad Tracks and the quarry is impassable due to a wire down across roadway. Burnt Hill Road is closed between Skillman Road and Orchard Road due to downed wires.

Readers are reporting that Route 29 is closed from Washington Crossing Park to Valley Rd in Titusville due to downed trees, downed power lines, and flooding.

The Hopewell Police Department reports that the following roads are impassable because of downed trees and wires:

  • Van Dyke Road near the railroad overpass
  • Featherbed Lane
  • Route 612 between Route 31 and Route 518
  • Hart Avenue

Other roads have trees down but are passable, according to the Hopewell Police Department.Local public works departments and local utility companies have been notified and are responding.

Amwell Road is closed between Longhill and Montgomery, Route 206 is closed near the Montgomery border in Hillsborough. Mt. View Rd and River Road are closed between Amwell and Mill. River Road is closed between Amwell and Mill.

A transformer was hit by lightning and residents who live on Harrison Street North and Bunn Drive in Princeton are reporting they are without power. Residents who live in the Great Road area area also reporting that power is out.

In the northern part of Princeton, about 3,376 customers were without power as of 7 p.m..  In Pennington and Hopewell, about 800 PSE&G customers were without power as of 7 p.m. In Montgomery, more than 2,000 customers were without power as of 7:15 p.m.

  1. The lights on Stockton Street/206 and Elm Drive and Edgerstoune Rd are out, as is power in that area.
