Trenton-Mercer Airport Adds Second Commercial Carrier

AllegiantA second commercial carrier will begin service at Trenton-Mercer Airport in early November, county officials announced today.

Ultra-low-fare airline Allegiant will offer nonstop service to three Florida destinations from the Trenton-Mercer Airport.

Allegiant will offer nonstop service to:

  • Orlando/Sanford, with flights three times a week beginning Nov. 3
  • Punta Gorda/Fort Meyers, with twice-weekly flights beginning Nov. 3
  • Tampa/St. Pete, with twice-weekly flights beginning Nov. 4.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Allegiant to expand our commercial service at Trenton-Mercer Airport,” Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes said. “Allegiant recognizes that Trenton-Mercer is a first-rate facility offering convenient alternatives to the region’s major airports. Allegiant’s nonstop service to three Florida destinations will benefit the public by providing even more low-fare travel options, and I am excited about the possibilities.”

Allegiant is based in Las Vegas and was founded in 1999. The company now offers 300 routes across the country. The Federal Aviation Administration recently conducted a detailed, 90-day inspection of Allegiant Air’s operations in response to internal issues tied to maintenance and safety. Such a comprehensive review is normally conducted at all airlines every five years, but the FAA said it moved up its review of Allegiant by nearly two years to ensure the airline has remedied problems in operations.

“We’re very excited to bring Allegiant’s ultra-low-cost flights to the Trenton area,” said Lukas Johnson, Allegiant’s vice president of network and pricing. “We know that local travelers will enjoy spending less to fly nonstop to three of Florida’s best vacation destinations.”

To celebrate its arrival at Trenton-Mercer Airport, Allegiant is offering one-way fares on the routes for as low as $39. Flight days, times and the lowest fares can be found at Allegiant.com.

Allegiant will compete directly with Frontier Airlines. Frontier offers non-stop flights to a dozen destinations from Trenton-Mercer Airport, including all three Florida destinations.
